Reasons to make love 3 or more days a week. As if most of us needed a reason to enjoy our partners in the bedroom (or the beach, or the kitchen, or the car); now we have university research that proves we should be loving each other more.

1. Less Chance Of Getting Sick

Psychologists Carl Charnetski and Francis Brennan of Wilkes University, Pennsylvania, United States found that having regular sex can help boost the immune system of women and men. Their research shows having sex twice a week releases increased levels of Immunoglobulin A (IgA), which forms a barrier against disease. According to the prestigious Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minnesota, United States) The anti-body Immunoglobulin is a natural protein that helps fight off colds and other nagging conditions humans can contract from non-controllable environmental variables.

2. Keeps You Looking Young

3500 people were tested and those having sex 3 times a week were rated an average of 5 to 7 years younger than those in the study who were intimate 2 or less times per week. The research was spear-headed by renowned psychologist Dr. David Weeks, whom is the form Head of Psychology at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital in Edinburgh, UK. Weeks spent 10 years researching thousands of women and men between 40 and 50 years of age.

Dr. Weeks states, pleasure from intercourse is a “crucial factor” in preserving youth. His study showed “Intercourse causes the release of the human growth hormone, which makes skin look more elastic, among other biological reactions”.

3. Lowers Risk of Prostate Cancer

According to Harvard Medical School’s (Boston, Massachusetts, United States) Annual Report; men having regular sexual intercourse with regular ejaculation frequency seemed to be protected against prostate cancer. That research was stated by Marc Garnick, M.D., Editor in Chief of the report.

The study researched 29,342 men ranging from 46 to 81 years of age. Participants of the study also provided comprehensive lifestyle and health information every two years from 1992 to 2000. The research shows, “The scientists found that men who ejaculated 21 or more times a month enjoyed a 33% lower risk of prostate cancer compared with men who reported four to seven ejaculations a month throughout their lifetimes”.

4 Less Stress

According to Dr. Weeks sex can also greatly reduce stress levels. His research shows sex releases feel-good chemicals in the brain like dopamine and oxytocin and dopamine both of which have been scientifically proven to lower stress levels.

5. Makes You Smarter

A study by Seoul, South Korea’s Kontuk University and the United State’s University of Maryland found that sexual activity in small and large rodents (mice and rats) increased mental performance and cognitive function. This is due to an increase neurogenesis (the production of new neurons in the brain) in the hippocampus, where long-term memories are formed. In conclusion, sex can make you smarter!

Kontuk University researchers also found that sex helps protect the participants brain from the damaging effects of stress.

6. Burns Calories

The reality is intercourse alone wont turn into a Men’s Health fitness model but you will burn some calories. A study by the University of Montreal suggests moderate sex between 2 healthy young adults, “These results suggest that sexual activity may potentially be considered, at times, as a significant exercise”. The study suggests that at a moderate pace men can burn the same amount of calories as a steady-intensity 30 minute workout.

7 .Prolongs Life

A study by Dr. Irwin Goldstein, Director of Sexual Medicine at Alvarado Hospital, suggests sex can make you live longer. Coitus 2 times a week or more releases dopamine, a hormone which helps regulate mood. This can cause feelings of happiness and empathy which helps for a healthier lifestyle.

8. Regret

This seems obvious to most of us but in the age of gender equality we hate to assume. In this case assumptions would be correct; overall females regret casual encounters more than males.

Professor Leif Edward Ottesen Kennair at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology’s (NTNU) department of psychology did a sex study with an emphasis on regret. They found 35% of women feel guilty after a one-night stand compared to only 20% of men. The study also shows some interesting facts including 70% of Western Europeans will have a one-night fling and 50% of North Americans will do the same.

The Norwegian study also showed 80% of women were pleased they passed on a casual sex, while only 43% of men were happy they decided to turn down a casual sexual encounter.

9. Lowers Blood Pressure

Well renown physician and researcher Joseph J. Pinzone, MD, states, ““There have been many studies,” he says. “One landmark study found that sexual intercourse specifically (not masturbation) lowered systolic blood pressure”. Ironically enough writes that high blood pressure can prevent males from being able to perform sexually. Translation: No Long Dry Spells!
